Interviews, My Guests

Interview With Katherine Garbera, Author of His Instant Heir

His Instant Heir, a contemporary romance by Katherine GarberaI’m delighted to have Katherine Garbera here as my guest today.

Hi, Katherine, welcome. Tell us a little about His Instant Heir, book one in your Baby Business triology. What inspired this story?

This story stemmed out of an idea I had about choices. You know how sometimes you think I’m going to do this one thing and be daring and forget about the consequences? Well for Cari that bold move landed her pregnant and on her own. Having her son changed everything for her and forced her to look at life in a different way.

Blurb:

It was only one night…

Cari Chandler can’t forget Declan Montrose. Their baby is a living reminder. The baby she hasn’t told him about. The no-commitment billionaire—and her family’s sworn enemy—walked out of her life the morning after. But now he’s back…with a vengeance!

Taking over her company is the last step to victory in their families’ long feud. But Cari’s more than collateral damage to Dec. He wants—needs—to seduce her again and again. Until he finds out she’s hidden something more precious than her company. His son. And Dec intends to claim him…no matter the cost.

What are you working on now? Do you have any releases scheduled for this year?

Right now I’m working on book 3 in the Baby Business series. I another release coming in November called A Cowboy for Christmas.  I’m really excited about it.

What do you enjoy most about writing?

I enjoy the process of coming up with new characters and then figuring out with makes them tick.  Then finding the person they think would be their opposite and that they’d never fall in love with and setting them up to fall in love.  J

Do you have a favorite time of day for writing?

I like writing first thing in the morning.  By 3 in the afternoon I’m done for the day and ready to get online and chat with readers.

How do you balance writing and everyday life?

I started writing when my daughter was only a year old and I figured out early on that the only way to be productive and to balance my writing and family life was to be dedicated to whatever I was doing while I was doing it.  That means when I’m writing I don’t worry about family things.  I sort of unplug from the world and get my pages done.  When I’m with my family I don’t answer emails or any of that.  I just enjoy being with them.

What is your favorite memory from childhood?

Playing with my sisters in the ‘swinging tree’ on our property.  That tree was our penthouse in Manhattan, our spaceship for exploring new worlds and our giant robot when we needed to conquer invading aliens.

Where is your favorite place in the world?

With my husband and children.  I don’t care where we are as long as they are with me.  J

Who first introduced you to the love of reading?

My mom and her friend Mrs. Loften.  They both read tons of books and would give them to me when they were done.  I’d read them and then take them to the used bookstore in my town and trade them in for more new books.

These are few of my favorite things:

1. A good cup of coffee first thing in the morning

2. A glass of dry white wine at night J

3. Walking around with my husband and just enjoying the moment.

A Giveaway! I’m giving away an autographed copy of His Instant Heir to three lucky blog participants today. So, leave a comment and share: What’s your favorite thing?

Excerpt:

“Has it lingered in your mind? I know it has mine.”

“In a way,” she said, twisting the charm on her necklace with her fingers and then patting it down.

He glanced at the piece of jewelry, for the first time noticing that it was a charm with a small head on it and two initials. DJ.

DJ?

He was starting to put things together but what he was coming up with made no sense. Whatever it was she was trying so hard not to say to him…it couldn’t be what was flirting around in the back of his mind.

She wouldn’t have waited so long to get in touch with him. He had to believe that.

“What are you trying to tell me?”

She took another sip of her coffee and then put both hands on the table and leaned over toward him. Even in the dim lighting he could see the tension in her body and the nervousness in her eyes. He calmed himself the way he did when he had to fire someone. He pushed down all the emotions that had been swirling around him all night—even the lust that he’d hoped would lead to more than just a kiss.

“It might sound…That is to say after you left—Dammit, there is no way to say this nicely. I was pregnant, Dec. I had a baby nine months ago. A little boy,” she said. Now that she’d started talking she couldn’t seem to stop. “I know I should have called you or gotten in touch but at first I didn’t—couldn’t believe I was pregnant and then…well, your company was planning a hostile takeover of mine and…”

“I have a son?”
