Cliffs of Moher, County Clare, Ireland
The Cliffs of Moher (Aillte an Mhothair) are one of Ireland’s top Visitor attractions. The Cliffs are 214 meters* high at the highest point and range for 8 kilometres over the Atlantic Ocean on the western seaboard of County Clare. O’Brien’s Tower stands proudly on a headland of the majestic Cliffs. From the Cliffs one can see the Aran Islands, Galway Bay, as well as The Twelve Pins, the Maum Turk Mountains in Connemara and Loop Head to the South. (Info: Cliffs of Moher)
You can take a lovely virtual tour here
The cliffs were used for the Cliffs of Insanity in the movie The Princess Bride
I’ve been fascinated by this locale for years and I’ve used the cliffs as inspiration for the setting of my character Angus Doran’s opening scene in my More Than Magic. Someday I hope to travel here in person and not just vicariously by virtual tour.
*214 meters =702 feet!! That’s a long way down!
