I’m celebrating all sorts of good news this month!
An Award!
Kissing Katie is a 2015 Rone Award Winner!
I was so thrilled to receive the news yesterday that Kissing Katie won in the Novella category at the 2015 InD’Scribe Con in Palms Springs. I wish I had been able to attend the conference, but I’m happy dancing here at home. Thank you so much to InD’Tale Magazine, the reviewers, readers, and judges. I loved writing Katie and Matt’s story.
Sometimes love is just around the corner
Seeking peace while he decides between prestigious job offers, burned-out lawyer Matt Powell rents his boyhood vacation home at the Jersey shore on a nostalgic whim. However, discovering the lovely widow next door is his childhood best friend, Katie Vanburen, complicates everything. His old love for her hits hard, but this time around his feelings are anything but innocent. It’s decision time: the high-profile career he’s earned–or a life he never dreamed possible loving his girl next door.
Twenty years ago, Matt broke Katie’s teenaged heart when he vanished from her life after his parents’ divorce. She grew up, buried her childish dreams, and moved on. New dreams shattered with her unfaithful husband’s death, but now she’s a successful website designer and owns her beloved shore house. She’s delighted to renew their friendship, but unready to trust her heart again–even if Matt’s kisses tempt her beyond reason. But can her cracking defenses hold when Matt argues his case for love so eloquently, in bed and out?
Come fall in love at the shore!

The River #1 ~ The Fourth of July is over, but for these summer lovers, the fireworks have just begun.
An unexpected inheritance brings business consultant Christopher Gordon from Los Angeles to quaint Falk’s Bend. He’s carved time from his demanding schedule to dispose of his great-grandparents’ home and explore his roots. However, disturbing family secrets and the sweet temptation of writer Margie Olsson derail his plans, challenging him to seize the elusive dream missing from his hectic life–love.
A recent brush with death shook Margie’s life, but not her dreams, and she’s ready to move forward. Only, standing up to her loving, over-protective family isn’t easy. Helping Christopher explore the derelict mansion and unravel his grandmother’s mysterious past allows a fun taste of independence. But when her experimental summer fling ignites into unexpected love, can her small town dreams work with his big city life?
The River #2 ~ What’s a girl to do when her summer lover wants forever?
Haunted by dark memories of her parents’ volatile marriage, artist Kay Browning keeps her heart locked behind a free-spirit facade and contents herself with the comfortable affair she has every summer with easygoing photographer Nate Quinn.
The only trouble with her plan? This summer Nate’s come to Lake Mohave to claim the lover he can’t let go. He’s done with the endless traveling and settling for temporary homes and temporary loves. Kay’s always been more than just a vacation fling, and now he must convince this woman, who sees love as a course to certain heartbreak, to take that leap of faith and learn how safe love with the right man can be.

“…I truly loved how Ms. James expressed so well the emotional rollercoaster of their relationship. The fears, happiness, confusion and pain that Kay went through in coming to a decision of her next step to this relationship was expressed wonderfully. This book truly made me laugh, giggle and cry. The other characters in the book were wonderful; some had their own problems to deal with and it was like this story just sucked you into their world. I know it made me feel like I was in the book and seeing it all unfold right before my eyes.
The dialogue of CLEAR AS DAY was fluid and perfect. It had the perfect amount of passion that sizzled every time Kay and Nate got together.
If you want romance with all the emotions—whether good, bad or ugly—with some humor, this book is for you.”
