Mayke It Happen – I Made It!

31 May

Well, I did it. I finished the 60k this morning. And I finished the draft of Missing Magic this evening, ending the challenge with a total of 63,198. It’s not perfectly finished. This is so definitely a first draft with logic, timing and other errors just crying to be fixed. But I have Annie and Finn’s story running unbroken from Chapter 1 to Chapter 31. Wow!

Well, the home stretch is coming up. Seven more days to finish this challenge. I should make the 60k. I only have 7k to go.

Finishing the last four chapters of Missing Magic is coming so slowly, but I think the changes are good. I’ve upped the tension between Finn and Marcan and I changed the Blathnat thread.  Snaithan keeps morphing. That of course means changing earlier scenes.  I finally committed to moving the dragon arena to Book 2. As much I liked having it in Book 1, it needs to move and let me put the ransom into a better place.

Okay, back to work.

Mayke It Happen – Week 11

18 May

writers_block_by_olsman_696532-1-smallMood: Tired and need to whine.

May is just not a good month for taking on too many projects. It’s fast approaching the end of the school year, I’m taking a synopsis workshop, report cards are looming, I need to get a submission for Put Your Heart in a Book contest ready (which mean write/rewrite the d*mned synopsis soon, the yard needs serious weeding and my allergies and neck are killing me.

Oh, and trying to finish Missing Magic is giving me another kind of headache altogether. I’m so close, yet so far. Snaithan’s character is morphing again, for the better, I believe, but his rounding growth affects everything else. Then, I’ve got a conflict on one character needing to be in two places at one time. Need to fix that. Then, a scene I want to happen in the climatic battle, can’t, unless I figure how to move either a character or the battle and that solution currently escapes me.

Okay, whining over. I think I can make the 60k goal by the 31st, I’m less than 15k away, but it has been a hard push to get this far in wordcount, mostly since I chose projects that need editing, rewriting and expanding rather than a fresh, start from scratch story. I am really pleased with how far I’ve come on Missing Magic and on Deeper Than Bone, even though DTB has been neglected lately in favor of finishing MM.

writers_block_by_olsman_696532-1-smallMood: Encouraged

I’ve been making very good progress on Missing Magic over the weekend. I should be able to finish Missing Magic and reach the 60k in word count without a problem, but the word count will be split between the two stories. I need to decide which direction to take DTB. Once I finish this draft of Missing Magic I should be able to dig back into DTB without feeling guilty for not working on MM.
