Lucky Seven-Peek at a New Story

W. Lynn Chantale tagged me!

So, for my Lucky Seven-Peek at a New Story here we have a snippet from Love Burns, the sequel I’m working on to Clear As Day.

How different from last year, when she’d been all tense, prim, and proper like some haughty runway model . . .

No, like a hunted fawn. He clenched his fist. Punching out R.J. would have felt good. Real good.

He totally did not need the complication of Olivia. This was the wrong time in his life to want a woman. She was the wrong woman to want, but every sight of those lips of hers, those deep eyes, shot him right back to the hallway and that kiss.

Six Sentence Sunday 10

5 Feb

What happened after last week’s fishing lesson? For today’s six, we have a bit from a scene following in Love Burns:

“Wow,” she gasped and her delight bubbled into breathless laughter. “Glad I went for the sturdier cot.”
He braced up on his elbows, chest heaving in panting chuckles, and kissed her. “Wow, hell, yeah.” More chuckles shook out of him and he pressed his cheek to hers. “Good choice.”

I’m still attempting to finish Love Burns by the end of the month (I don’t see it happening thanks to some stubborn scenes and busy EDJ, but I’ll keep plugging away) and made some progress planning promotion for Clear As Day. Since deadlines help, I’m taking up a 30k challenge in February and plan to split the word count between editing Love Burns and having some well-needed fun writing new words for Heat Wave.

So, with focus back on Love Burns for today’s six, a simple fishing lesson heats up:

“Now, we’re going to cast overhand here. So keep that finger tight on the line, and you’ll cock the rod back over your right shoulder, so the reel’s kind of pointed up.” He skimmed callused fingertips over her, and drew her into position, his chest brushing her back, swimsuits allowing sun-warmed bare skin to meet bare skin, and caged her in the gentle grip of his arms and hands. “Like this.”

The rush of needy heat swiftly drowned her resolve to be sensible and focused. Oh, yes, how well he’d used those hands yesterday…

A week now into the new year and I’m back to working on my goal of finishing this draft of Love Burns by the end of the month. Here’s a snip from a picnic scene I’ve enjoyed writing:

His expression tender and savoring, he traced his fingertips over her skin, shoulder to breast to waist to hip, and his warm smile broadened. “You are so beautiful. Kay should paint you, like this, dressed in sunlight.” Humor sparked in his amber eyes and he chuckled. “I was going to say Nate should photograph you, but if he did, then I’d have to kill him and he is my best friend, so that would be a problem.”

Her anxiety at lying so bare beneath him and the wide blue sky broke, and she laughed, even as his possessive joke intrigued her.
